Creating a Culture of Measurement and Evaluation for High Performance Nonprofits

On May 14, 2015, Community Science Principal Associate Meg Hargreaves, Ph.D., M.P.P., presented at the 7th Civil Society Days Nirun Sahingiray International Forum II titled Measurement and Evaluation in NonProfit Organizations in Istanbul, Turkey. The international conference was organized by the Educational Volunteers Foundation of Turkey in collaboration with Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government and Kadir Has University. Her session was titled “Creating a Culture of Measurement and Evaluation for High Performance Nonprofits.”

In her presentation, Dr. Hargreaves discussed how a culture of rapid evaluation can contribute to high performance within nonprofit environments and how an interactive and adaptive management cycle can help create this culture. Forum participants also considered how to choose the right evaluation methods, given evaluation questions of interest and various levels of complexity.

Developing Goals, Metrics, and Indicators for Health Equity Evaluations

On May 20, 2015, Community Science Principal Associate Meg Hargreaves, Ph.D., M.P.P., presented at the 7th Annual Empowering Communities for a Healthy Mississippi Conference titled Lead, Connect, and Inspire in Jackson, Mississippi. The statewide conference was organized by the Mississippi State Department of Health in collaboration with contributing partners, including the University of Mississippi Medical Center, the Mississippi Departments of Education and Mental Health, the Mississippi Public Health Association, Health and Wellness Coalition, Diabetes Coalition, and Partnership for a Healthy Mississippi. Her presentation was titled “Practical Tips for Developing Goals, Metrics, and Indicators for Health Equity Evaluations.” Dr. Hargreaves discussed how the social determinants of health impact health equity and the application of a health equity lens to evaluation.
