What knowledge, skills, and experience do we need you to bring to Community Science?

Our positions have different requirements, which are reflected in each posting at the bottom of the page.

You should have the following qualifications:

  • Degree in a social science, urban planning, or public health.

  • Prior knowledge or research experience in at least one area of community change (e.g., health equity, housing and economic development, early childhood development, workforce development, systems change, racial equity, or community capacity building). Evaluation capacity building experience highly desirable.

  • Proficiency in both qualitative and quantitative analysis methods and software (mixed methods).

  • Direct experience or familiarity with working in a professional services firm.

  • Experience in the implementation of evaluations of community-based or systems change projects among diverse communities.

  • Strong communication (written and verbal) skills including publications in scientific or practitioner outlets.

  • Ability to thrive in a busy environment, where attention to detail and meeting deadlines are critical to success.

  • Prior experience and evaluation capacity building and other forms of knowledge and skill building.

  • Ability to travel.

  • Proficiency in foreign languages and cultures is an advantage.

Senior Analyst - Evaluation & Capacity Building

Community Science provides an integrated approach to building the capacity of organizations and institutions to develop healthy, just and equitable communities. Our greatest strength is the study of community and system change. Our mission is to develop the knowledge necessary to address social problems in a way that benefits all communities. We answer evaluation and research questions using state-of-the-art qualitative and quantitative methods.

Our services include research and evaluation as well as capacity-building products and services such as consultation, training, webinars, applications, and guides for practitioners.

The Senior Analyst position is located in the Washington DC Metropolitan area. Our office is in Gaithersburg, MD.

We are seeking a full-time Senior Analyst to support research and technical assistance tasks for national and local initiatives across the U.S. You will work with public agencies and non-profit representatives, community leaders, evaluators, and others on federal, state, and foundation initiatives. We will rely on your knowledge, skills, and experience in the evaluation of community development, and systems change that intend to foster healthy communities, families, and children in order to address social problems such as poverty, inadequate systems of care, homelessness, substance abuse, violence, and crime. You must be well organized, have high standards for your work, and be committed to scientific rigor and progressive social change through the use of knowledge to support decision making and community capacity building.

Qualifications:

  • Master's or doctoral degree in psychology, urban planning, sociology or other social science and two to five years of post-graduate experience in the implementation of research, evaluation, or capacity building of community or systems change projects;
  • Prior evaluation or research experience as well substantive knowledge in at least one area of community change e.g., public health, housing and economic development, early childhood development, workforce development, or juvenile justice.
  • Evaluation capacity building experience highly desirable;
  • Demonstrated proficiency in both qualitative and quantitative research skills, including data collection and management;
  • Analysis skills, including the use of proficient computer analysis tools e.g. STATA, MS ACCESS or ArcGIS ;
  • Ability to travel;
  • Strong communication written and verbal skills including publications in scientific or practitioner outlets; and

Ability to multi-task, pay attention to detail, and meet strict deadlines

Salary and Benefits:

Community Science offers a competitive total compensation package that, for this position, includes base pay with an annual target between $80,000 and $85,500 negotiable, based on qualifications, along with a comprehensive benefits program.
